Hotwire Coffeehouse’s History
Established in 2002, Hotwire Coffeehouse is part of West Seattle history. We are located in a quaint little brick building from 1910, which was once the carriage house for Seattle Lighting & Gas.
Hotwire Coffeehouse is a beloved local gem known for its cozy atmosphere and excellent coffee. With a focus on community, this inviting space offers a variety of specialty brews, delicious pastries, and local burritos and sandwiches (vegan and gluten-free options available), along with light bites—making it the perfect spot for a morning pick-me-up or a casual afternoon hangout.
The warm décor and friendly staff create a welcoming environment, while local art adorns the walls, adding to the neighborhood charm. Whether you’re here to work, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet moment, Hotwire is a true West Seattle favorite.
We are also dog-friendly and offer a desktop computer with MS Office, along with a scanner and printer for your convenience.
Angela & Jeff – Owners
This is Jeff and Angela. They have owned Hotwire since 2016 but were long-time regulars and personal friends of the previous owner and staff. They jumped at the opportunity to purchase their beloved coffee shop, and they’ve been running the show ever since.
Jeff was born and raised in Rochester, MA, and moved to Seattle, WA, in 1992. He planted roots through music, family, and various business investments—including building a small coffee and baked-goods empire. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Business and is currently pursuing a master’s in physics. He is also a drummer in the local rock band
Hobosexual.
Angela was born and raised in West Seattle, attending Schmitz Park Elementary, Madison Middle School, and West Seattle High School. She holds a bachelor’s in business from the UW Foster School of Business. Angela was one of the first members of Seattle-based startup Redfin.com, where she was in charge of accounting, operations, human resources, legal, and many other responsibilities. During her tenure, the company grew from one market to 18+, and from 10 employees to over 650.

Six years and two kids later, Angela decided to leave Redfin in order to aid Jeff in running their various businesses, pursue a black belt in the martial art of Tang Soo Do, and, of course, shepherd their children.
Other than Hotwire, the pair owned and operated The Flying Apron for 12 years and are partners at Havana Social Club and Life on Mars. Combined, the couple employ over 50 people in the area. Jeff and Angela are entrenched in—and constantly seeking—new challenges and adventures with the goal of keeping Seattle truly locally owned.
On top of being badass business owners and investors, they are just straight-up awesome people. Jeff and Angela truly care about their employees and customers, and the Hotwire crew absolutely adores them.
Our Coffee: Locally Sourced from Seven Roasters
From Seven Roasters: Seven Coffee Roasters was started in a small café/roastery in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle in 2006 by Sean Lee. Seven is named after Sean's grandmother, affectionately called “Nana” by grandkids. Nana, in Japanese, means seven.
In 2009, the café became Makeda Coffee, and Seven Coffee Roasters evolved into a wholesale coffee company supplying various cafés, markets, bakeries, and restaurants in the Puget Sound region. They were affectionately known as the "small roaster for small businesses," and the moniker stuck.
2012 brought a new retail location. Established in 1922 and unofficially the second-oldest market in Seattle, Seven Market & Café now sits where the former Boulevard Grocery once stood. Inside, you’ll find a great selection of local goods, craft beer, fine wines, and a cool coffee bar. With a rotating selection of four taps that include local beers, ciders, and Seven Cold Brew in the summer, it’s a community favorite.
Today, Seven Coffee Roasters can still be found at many small businesses around Puget Sound. Coffee is roasted daily in Seattle, and their values of hard work, integrity, and compassion still serve as a tribute to the woman the company is named after.
