Thursday, April 14th 6PM – 8PM

I notice tiny things: colors, texture, depth. Life in full, intricate detail. My photographs highlight those details that are usually overlooked; they make everyday moments potent and vital. Many of my images also relate the infinite, taken-for-granted aspects and forms of water—or their absence.

Capturing images is an emotional and spiritual experience for me. Surrounded by the cycle of life, with my camera and journal in hand, I know that Water is Life, without it we die.

I love art, music, Seattle, the San Juan Islands, the resident Orca whales, Mount Rainier, and, of course, rain. I live in harmony with my fur and feather family—three cats and four birds.

Kelly Reynolds Art is Love February Artist

Kelly Reynolds
Painter, photographer, mother.
Inspired by nature and truth.

A student of photography, and while I still hold a deep love for photographs and their stories I find true peace in painting. I paint for myself, the peace and complex emotions in each brushstroke are lessons in strength and endurance. Painting is meditation in motion, I often start with a simple idea than allow the creative process to flow naturally into a collaboration of color and soul. I hope you enjoy the show!!

HOPE  LUTHERAN  PRESCHOOL  ART  DISPLAY

SEA STAR CLASS:  The theme for the 3 year old art project was “Valentine”.  In completing this project, they reviewed the shapes  square, rectangle and heart.  They learned the vocabulary “to center”, “border”, “background” and “trace”.  They also got practice with beginning scissor skills, using water color brushes and glue sticks!  We tied in literacy and dictation by asking them their thoughts about and discussing how we show love.

ORCA CLASSES:   Inspiration for the morning pre-k class project came from the book “The Dot”.  After viewing the story on You Tube, they were free to create a piece using dots, circles and tracers with a variety of mediums on water color paper.  The story carried a great message about celebrating everyone’s abilities to

{C}·       {C}do art and how we can be encouragers to each other.  The kids really enjoyed the open-ended style of this activity and how the colors and lines interacted together.

{C}·       {C} The afternoon pre-k class were learning about winter; and on one of our coldest days, we thought about how nice it is to have a hot drink!  After looking at several types of mugs and cups and thinking about the lines we could use to draw them; the kids were invited to draw their own “Hot Cup” complete with steam rising up!.  They decorated them with crayon and using wax resist, covered the paper with water color followed by a sprinkling of salt to create a frosty effect.  The snowy cold border was added the next day.

January 9th, 2014 Art Walk

Join us on Thursday, January 9th for the first Hotwire art walk of 2014.

Jeanne Gransee Barker is a writer, artist, and designer. She thinks of the photos she does more as art than true photography. She loves to push the colors, shift the focus, and find the beauty in the ordinary, the worn, the dull. She tries to take the viewer to the perspective as she sees it.
