KENYA FEATURED COFFEE

Kenya
Kenya coffees are prized by connoisseurs everywhere for their medium body, racy acidity and dry wine-like character.  They often have a fruitiness reminiscent of blackberries, as well as walnut tones amid the subtle aromatic spectrum.  Their tart vibrant taste is instantly recognizable to the experienced cupper.

African Coffees

ETHIOPIAN SIDAMO
Sidamo is a district in southern Ethiopia that produces remarkably complex washed coffee.  It has delicate floral overtones, pleasing citrusy acidity, medium body and semi-sweet chocolate notes.  This elegant coffee is prized by connoisseurs and coffee lovers around the world.

KENYA AA
Kenya consistently produces some of the most sought-after coffees in the world.  “Double-A” is the top grade and, at their best, they are comparable to fine dry red wine. The cup shows a medium body, bright tangy acidity and notes of blackberries and walnuts.  For those who enjoy a lively brew.

COSTA RICAN TARRAZU
Rich, full bodied, pungent and bold, Costa Rican coffees are justifiably renowned for their quality and character. Faintly smoky chocolate mixed with a lemony citrus tinge mark this "Strictly Hard Bean" grade. It is shade-grown by a cooperative in the West Central Valley.

GUATEMALAN HUEHUETENANGO
Grown in the volcanic soils of the Huehuetenango region of western Guatemala, this coffee has a pleasantly mild acidity, full velvety body, and a subtle sweetness. The aroma conveys spicy sugar cane, honey, and caramel notes.

MEXICO CHIAPAS (Organic Co-op Grown)
Mexico provides some very pleasant coffees that are enjoyable for the novice coffee drinker and the true connoisseurs. This is a very balanced coffee with a medium body, light acidity, and sweet caramel and floral notes.

EL SALVADOR "SANTA RITA"
The tiny Central American country of El Salvador produces a remarkable quantity of coffee, and the quality has been improving noticeably in recent years. This lot is composed entirely of the Bourbon variety of the arabica species, grown on specially designated farms. In the cup, it offers a medium bodied, mild brew, with attractive notes of caramel, molasses, and cocoa.

BRAZIL CERRADO DRY PROCESS
Brazil is the world's largest producer of coffee. Some unique and distinctively delicious coffees are produced on the fazendas (plantations) of the interior Cerrado region in Minas Gerais State.  The ripe coffee cherries are picked and allowed to dry in the sun.  The husk is then milled away, and the beans are sorted and graded for shipment.  The cup has a heavy syrupy body, exceedingly mild acidity and characteristic tobacco-like "autumn leaf" note to the aroma.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Some world-class coffees are being produced in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea.  The cup has big rich buttery body, lively acidity and a touch of sea salt.  The aroma is subtle and complex, with savory undertones of dark chocolate, grilled nuts and tropical fruit. Try it in a French Press.

SUMATRA
For individuals who like a full bodied coffee, this is it.  Heavy body, low acid, herbal notes, with some earthy and mossy undertones.  No wonder it’s a consistent Pacific Northwest favorite.  Grown near Lake Toba in the Mandheling region of Northern Sumatra.

SULAWESI "TORAJA" (formerly Celebes)
Like most Indonesian arabicas, Sulawesi coffee has rich full body and mellow acidity, with a slightly spicy sweetness and chocolate undertones. The cup is distinguished by a delightful woodiness and subtle nut-like aroma.

JAVA
A name synonymous with coffee, Java is an Indonesian island that has been producing world-famous coffee since arabica plants were introduced in the mid-seventeenth century.  This offering is from the Blawan Estate, one of a handful of old estates originally established by the Dutch in the volcanically active Ijen Plateau of Eastern Java.  The cup is full rich and solid, with creamy texture and an aroma of chocolate and roasted nuts.

HOTWIRE ESPRESSO
Hotwire Espresso has an inviting nose and sweet balanced flavor, perfect for serving straight, or in a Cappuccino or Tiramisu.  Zesty citrus notes give way to sweet syrupy chocolate tones and subtle fruitiness.  Layers of flavor unfold on the palate, leading to a gradual attenuation and long lingering aftertaste.

DECAF ESPRESSO (Water Process)
The decaffeinated version of our espresso blend is somewhat milder than the original, but retains full rich notes of sweet cocoa and wood.  It delivers a soft and satisfying cup, without the nervous buzz.
